VOTE TO RANK CAROLYN THOMAS NO.1 FOR CLWYD
VOTE TO RANK CAROLYN THOMAS NO.1 FOR CLWYD
"I am asking for your support to lead the Welsh Labour list for the Clwyd constituency. As a Member of the Senedd for North Wales, I have spent the last four years as a voice for the Clwyd constituency in the Senedd.
As your MS, I have successfully lobbied for the further devolution of highway funding, giving more power to local authorities and helped deliver a £120mn investment into repairing potholes.
I have worked cross-party to successfully campaign for a nationwide trial of capped bus fares, and for an increase to the Education Maintenance Allowance for young learners across Clwyd.
I have worked proactively with Labour Councillors and local residents, from bringing about much-needed investment into the Royal Alexandra Hospital, to protecting vital rural bus services in Llandegla. As a former Councillor, I delivered a match-funding agreement for local play areas which has protected hundreds from potential closure.
As the first and only Welsh Labour politician to ever be elected as a North Wales regional MS, I have a track record of campaign and policy success which can rally Welsh Labour members and trade unionists to deliver Welsh Labour seats in Clwyd."
There is a classic saying in politics: divided parties don't win elections. Like all members, I don't always agree with the party leadership on every issue, but whether our leader has been Mark Drakeford, Vaughan Gething, or Eluned Morgan, I have always backed them, and Welsh Labour, to deliver.
The next Senedd election is set to be the most challenging in a generation for our party, with Reform UK and Plaid Cymru surging in the polls. We need a strong, united party to beat them.
To beat our opponents, we must not only expose their lack of ideas, but proudly fight for our own values. That means relentlessly promoting the difference Welsh Labour has made to our country. Free prescriptions, the Real Living Wage for care workers, Free Schools Meals, protecting the Education Maintenance Allowance, a world-leading trial of Universal Basic Income, opposing PFI in our public services, and much more. None of these policies would have been enacted without Welsh Labour.
And part of winning is making sure our manifesto builds on these successes and promises to deliver more. I will work with members across Clwyd to push for member policy priorities to be included in the next manifesto.
When we combine the promotion of our past successes with a vision for a brighter Welsh future, we can defeat our opponents, return Welsh Labour MSs in Clwyd, and retain Welsh Labour control of Wales.
As a Member of the Senedd for North Wales, I have spent the last four years fighting for Clwyd in the Senedd chamber.
I have an excellent working relationship with both of our MPs, Gill German and Becky Gittins, as well as our local council leaders Jason McLellan and Dave Hughes.
From securing hundreds of millions of pounds for pothole repairs to working with retailers to have doors fitted on supermarket fridges to tackle climate change, and from successfully campaigning to increase EMA for young learners to winning a trial of capped bus fares, I have a strong track record of success.
Throughout my time as your MS, I have sent members across Clwyd regular newsletters keeping you up to date with my work both in the community, and in the Senedd chamber.
I'm not a career politician - I know what it is like to fight to bring up a young family whilst working multiple jobs to make ends meet. I have seen first-hand the devastation wrought by Tory austerity and privatisation when I worked as a postal worker in the Royal Mail.
It is this life experience that guides who I am as a person, and as a politician. It is why, since I have been elected, I have stood shoulder to shoulder with workers fighting for better pay and conditions, whether that be postal workers, bus drivers, rail staff, academics, or food production workers.
"My values, like yours, are Labour values through and through. The more of those in the next Senedd, the better for working people. A vote to rank Carolyn Thomas number 1 in the Clwyd selection is a vote for just that."
MY PLEDGES TO YOU
Welsh Labour belongs to you. Members are the lifeblood of our party. It is you who power our movement.
I have, and always will stand with our members, and stand for a truly member-led party. I will firmly oppose any attempts to take power away from local members, and will always be accountable to you.
As I have done for the last four years as your MS, I will continue to provide you with regular updates and newsletters, letting you know exactly how I am standing up for Clwyd both in the community, and in the Senedd.
I also carry out Clwyd-wide surveys, and I use the results of these to guide my priorities in the Senedd.
Party members have the ideas that renew Welsh Labour's sense of purpose, and form the basis for the manifesto on which we will fight elections. As a backbench MS, I have a strong track record of working with colleagues in Welsh Government to deliver policy wins. Your ideas can form part of our programme for Government, and I will always work with members to make sure their ideas can become reality.
We must never forget our links to the wider Labour movement. Since being elected to the Senedd, at every opportunity, I have stood with workers fighting for better pay and conditions. From Unite bus drivers to UCU academics, from CWU postal workers to RMT rail staff, and from Unite food production workers to PCS public sector workers, I have always used my platform to stand with workers.
Let me be clear, I have no desire for high office. At heart, I am a campaigner. I know I am at my best when working with members and local communities to lead campaigns and fight for policy change.
Choosing to rank me number 1 to lead the Clwyd list is a vote for a dedicated constituency MS who will always put the needs of members, and residents, ahead of personal ambition.
